Scanning Pages to PDF Format Using Your Smartphone Camera

These directions will walk you though using the Adobe Scan app to take photos of your physical paper pages and create a PDF to submit to Canvas.

Note: There are many other free apps that do this same task, such as CamScanner, PDF Scanner, and Genius Scan. Feel free to try them, but these directions will be specific to Adobe Scan.

Download the Adobe Scan app for your device. You can search the Google Play or Apple App Store for "Adobe Scan" or use these links:

Sign in, skip any free trials or premium features, and allow access to your camera.
1. To sign in, any kind of account will work. You can use the "Sign in with Google" or "Sign in with Apple" button & select your WCC email or sign up with a personal email.
2. You do not need to sign up for a free trial, purchase anything, or enter any payment information. Skip or close out of any screen that prompts for these.
3. Allow the app access to your camera when that permission window pops up.
Point your camera at the first page and tap the screen. It should automatically find the edges and take the photo. Make sure the pages are in good lighting and take the photo straight-on for the best quality.
If you have multiple pages, tap Keep scanning and scan the next page. When you're done, tap Save PDF.
To use your PDF to your device, tap ...More next to your file then Copy to device. Choose your save location, then tap Save. Exactly what it looks like to choose a location and save varies by device.
Now you can open the Canvas app, navigate to the assignment, and upload your new file. You could also choose to email the file to yourself so you can access it and submit it to Canvas from another device. How to: submit to Canvas assignment
